Operating Force

Maximum force needed to open. A child can do it.

Classic rooftop tents use external gas struts - visible, mechanically stressed, exposed to the weather. Roof Space moves the struts entirely inside. The spring force acts at the geometric optimum: evenly metered across the full opening angle, no jerky movements.

TECHNICAL — Internal gas struts aligned to the optimal lever point. Operating force under 3 kg across the full opening angle.

Pack-down explained in three steps:
1. Prepare: Remove the ladder and flip the tent fabric up at the corners using the rubber tabs.
2. Lock: Fold the shell together and secure it in the intermediate position with the supplied strap.
3. Stow: Simply guide the remaining tent fabric inwards and close the shell fully.

Note: The mattress is deliberately narrower than the total inner floor of the shell. The space reserve this creates for the tent fabric allows the shell to close effortlessly and cleanly.

The strap latch system lets you lock the shell lid in a defined intermediate position - keeping both hands free for easy stowing of the tent fabric. The strap you need sits within reach in the accessory pocket integrated into the lid. The strap features special buckles that actively engage the latch on the shell. This makes a smooth solo pack-down possible without any outside help.

Tip: Thanks to the controlled latching of the shell lid, safe airing in the slightly opened position is possible at any time - even in underground carparks.

Rotation & lever geometry

The intelligent arrangement of the gas struts allows the shell to be opened and closed safely with minimal effort. The hinge guides the rotation geometrically as it opens, so there are no load peaks, no jolting and no uncontrolled movement across the entire opening angle.

Both hands free. Always.

The shell lid locks in a defined intermediate position - entirely without counter-force. The strap system means you can fold the fabric into the shell at your own pace.

The vehicle becomes part of the structure.

The multifunctional strap isn't just a pack-down aid - in a storm it also acts as a safety guy line between the shell lid and the wheel rim. In strong wind, the vehicle shares the wind load. The forces at work are channelled directly into the vehicle structure, effectively relieving the tent's struts and hinges.

SETUP — Attach the guy strap to the shell and to the vehicle's wheel rim.

The sleeping platform follows the suspension bridge principle: the combination of aluminium frame and high-tensile steel cable forms a redundant load-bearing structure that withstands the 200 kg load capacity even without ladder support. No props, no cross-bracing.

*Always use the ladder as an additional support, as we cannot guarantee the surface it stands on in every individual case.

Quality starts with the materials.

Aluminium 6061-T6. The structural standard of aerospace.

High yield strength, excellent weldability, outstanding corrosion resistance. A 30 kg load capacity is approved while driving. And because the shell is aluminium, retrofitting accessories such as the L-tracks - or your own custom attachments - is easy to do individually.

The two-stage sealing system.

Roof Space seals in two stages. The outer level breaks the airflow pressure first, before it ever reaches the actual seal.

Only then does the final level seal - with no counter-pressure. No dust, no water, even after 200 km of highway.

Level 1 - pressure management: The outer lip breaks the ram pressure while driving.

Level 2 - final seal: Behind the first lip, all is calm.

Glass-fibre reinforced plastic is the industry standard - and it isn't recyclable. Roof Space ruled out fibreglass from day one.
